Week 4 - 15th to 17th Oct

Met the Hewlett family of Kerikeri. They are New Zealand riders who made a TV program about natural riding. Alan, Peter and I saw this program. Had a great visit with them. Kate explained the techniques of natural riding and showed me the bridle.

Tim had come in from rounding up cattle, so he brought out a horse he was training and showed us how the halter works. They recommended an author, Andrew McLean, from Australia, to look up. This is likeParelli in Canada and US.

Their farm has 90 horses. They own 60 and board 30. The horses are kept in large groups outside. Every week they have over 90 lessons! The ground is covered with very large shavings, so they are not in mud. It is very picturesque with the land overlooking the pacific.
